Are you allergic to peanuts? Do you know someone who is? Here is something you’ll want to know and share with others.

Fenugreek used as a spice in Indian cuisine, but actually, a legume plant can cause a serious allergic reaction in people with peanut allergy. This is due to a significant cross-reactivity between fenugreek and peanuts.  And while not yet a common household spice in the United States, it’s becoming more common as foods from different cultures are incorporated into restaurant offerings and supermarket products. Often a component of curry, fenugreek is also found in the cuisines of the Middle East and North Africa.

With a maple-like flavor and aroma, fenugreek may also be present in soaps, cosmetics, condiments and teas.  Chinese medicine practitioners have also used it as a dietary supplement.

So if you know someone who is allergic to peanuts, please share this very important information with them. You might just save a life!
